Cottagecore & Vintage Home Decor Ideas | The Patina Nest

Terms and Conditions

The ground rules for reading, pinning and shopping.

Last updated: 20 September 2026

Welcome to The Patina Nest. These terms explain the rules for using the site, what you can expect from us, and what we ask of you in return. We have kept the language as plain as we can, because a page like this is only useful if you can read it.

Read this first

The short version

  • The Patina Nest is a décor blog. What you read here is inspiration and general information, not professional advice.
  • Some links are affiliate links. If you buy through them we may earn a commission, and it does not add to what you pay.
  • Etsy, Amazon and Chairish sellers set their own prices, condition, shipping and returns. We don’t sell anything or handle orders.
  • Advertising on the Site is supplied by Google AdSense and is labelled as advertising.
  • Our articles and original images are protected by copyright. Saving to Pinterest with a link back is welcome; copying whole articles is not.
  • These terms can change, and using the Site after a change means you accept the new version.

1. Agreeing to these terms

These Terms and Conditions cover your use of thepatinanest.com (the “Site”), a home décor blog published by Eleanor Hartley. The Site is about cottagecore rooms, vintage wall décor, shabby chic, farmhouse style and vintage finds. By reading, browsing or otherwise using it, you accept these terms. If you don’t agree with them, please stop using the Site.

These terms work alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how personal information and cookies are handled, and our Affiliate Disclosure, which explains how we earn from links. Where one of those pages deals with a subject in more detail, the more detailed page applies to that subject.

The Site is written for adults and is not directed at children.

2. What The Patina Nest publishes

We publish articles, room ideas, sourcing notes and lists of finds. Most of it is about how things look and live together: how a chipped painted frame sits beside a clean modern sofa, how a linen slipcover softens with washing, what to check on a mirror with foxing before you buy it.

We aim to be useful, but every home is different. Your walls, light, budget and taste are your own, so treat what you read here as a starting point rather than a specification.

Posts may be corrected, updated or removed at any time without notice. The date on a post shows when it was first published, and an update note, where one appears, shows the latest revision.

3. Using the Site

You’re welcome to read, bookmark and share links to the Site for personal, non-commercial use. In return, please don’t:

  • copy, republish or translate full articles or sets of images on another website, app, shop listing or product;
  • use bots, scrapers or other automated tools to collect content in volume, or in a way that slows the Site down for other readers;
  • try to break into the Site, probe its security, or reach information that isn’t meant for you;
  • send or post anything unlawful, defamatory, hateful or that infringes someone else’s rights;
  • click advertisements repeatedly or artificially, or interfere with the way ads and links are displayed;
  • present our work as your own, or suggest that we endorse you, your shop or your products without our agreement.

We may restrict or block access for anyone who breaks these rules.

Unless we say otherwise, the text, layout, graphics and original images on the Site are protected by copyright and belong to The Patina Nest or are used with permission from their owners. Shop names, brand names, logos and retailer product photographs belong to their respective owners. Their appearance here does not give you any rights in them.

Saving to Pinterest and sharing a link

Pinterest is a big part of how readers find us, and you’re welcome to save our images to your boards or share a post’s link. Please make sure the pin or post links back to the original page, and don’t crop out or alter any credit or wording. Please don’t upload our images to other websites, stock libraries, print-on-demand products or datasets used to train AI systems.

Quoting our writing

A short quotation with a clear credit and a link back is fine. For anything longer, or for any commercial use, please ask first using the contact details at the end of this page.

The Patina Nest earns part of its income from affiliate links. When we point to a vintage find, a piece of furniture or a wall-décor item, the link may lead to a shop on Etsy, a product page on Amazon or a listing on Chairish. If you buy after clicking, we may earn a commission from that retailer. The price you pay is not increased because you used our link.

We aim to mention things because they suit a room or answer a reader’s question, not because of the commission on offer. Our Affiliate Disclosure gives the full explanation, and we mark affiliate links so they can be told apart from ordinary links.

Amazon

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Etsy and Chairish

Etsy shops and Chairish listings belong to independent sellers and dealers. Vintage and secondhand pieces are usually one of a kind, so an item we link to may sell, be relisted, or change in price, condition or shipping terms without any notice to us.

What happens after you click

Once you leave the Site, your purchase is between you and the retailer or seller. Their prices, stock, delivery times, returns and customer-service terms apply. We do not sell products, take payments, ship items or handle refunds, and any price or availability shown on the Site is only a guide that may be out of date.

Before you buy something vintage or antique, read the whole listing, check the measurements against your space, look at every photograph, and ask the seller about condition, repairs and anything a photo can’t show, such as smells or wobbles.

6. Advertising and analytics

Google AdSense

The Site displays, or may display, advertisements supplied by Google AdSense. Ads are labelled as advertisements and are kept separate from our editorial content. Advertisers choose their own messages; we do not control which ads Google shows and we do not endorse what they promote. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, and our Privacy Policy explains this and how to manage your choices.

Google Analytics

We may use Google Analytics, for example through Site Kit by Google, to understand which pages are read, how visitors find them and what devices they use, so that we can improve the Site. See the Privacy Policy for what is collected and the choices you have.

7. Other websites and services

The Site links to, and sometimes embeds, things we don’t run: retailers such as Etsy, Amazon and Chairish, social platforms such as Pinterest, and other websites we mention. We don’t control their content, security or privacy practices and we aren’t responsible for them. A link is not an endorsement of everything on the other site, so read their terms and privacy policies before you share personal details or pay for anything.

8. Decorating, DIY and safety information

Old houses and old objects come with quirks, and a few of them matter for safety. Please read this section before you act on anything on the Site.

General information only

Our articles are general inspiration and information. They are not advice from an electrician, structural engineer, conservator, appraiser, interior designer or any other licensed professional, and they can’t take account of how your home is built, your local building rules or your budget.

Points worth taking seriously

  • Wiring and lighting. Vintage lamps and fittings may have worn or non-compliant wiring. Have them checked or rewired by a qualified electrician before you use them.
  • Old paint. Painted furniture and walls in older homes may contain lead-based paint. Before sanding, scraping or stripping, have the paint tested and follow the guidance that applies where you live.
  • Heavy wall décor. Mirrors, framed pieces and shelves need fixings that suit both the weight and the wall, whether that is plaster, drywall or brick. If you are unsure, ask a professional.
  • Restoration products. Paints, waxes, strippers and solvents come with their own safety instructions. Follow them, and work with good ventilation and the protection the manufacturer recommends.
  • Value and authenticity. We are not appraisers. Nothing on the Site is a valuation, or a guarantee that an item is genuine, antique or from a particular period.

You use any idea from the Site at your own risk.

9. Comments and messages you send us

If you leave a comment or write to us, you are responsible for what you send. Please keep it respectful and relevant, and don’t include personal details you wouldn’t want made public. We may hold, edit or delete comments that are spam, abusive, promotional or unlawful.

By posting a comment you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to display it on the Site. We use messages sent to us to reply to you; the Privacy Policy explains how personal details are handled.

If you believe something on the Site infringes your copyright, a photograph for example, please email us at thepatinanest@gmail.com with:

  • the web address of the page it appears on;
  • a description of the work and how to identify it as yours;
  • your name and the best way to reach you.

We will look into it promptly and, where it is appropriate, credit, replace or remove the content. Writing to us first is usually the quickest way to fix a genuine mistake.

11. Disclaimers and limits on our liability

We work to keep the Site accurate and available, but it and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”. We don’t promise that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or suitable for a particular purpose.

To the extent the law allows, The Patina Nest and Eleanor Hartley are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the Site, or of any third-party site or product you reach through it. That includes money spent on items, damage to walls or furniture, and time lost on a project. Because the Site is free to read and we do not sell products through it, our total liability to you for any claim connected with the Site is limited to the extent the law permits.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including rights you may have under the law of your own country, for example in the UK, Canada or Australia.

12. Changes to the Site and to these terms

The Site will change as it grows, and the rules of the platforms and programmes we work with change too. We may update or remove parts of the Site, and we may revise these terms. The “last updated” date at the top of this page shows the current version, and we will say so on this page when a change is significant.

If you keep using the Site after a revision, you accept the revised terms.

13. Governing law and general terms

These terms are governed by the laws of Pakistan, and disputes will be handled by its courts, except that mandatory consumer laws in your home country may give you additional rights.

If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Affiliate Disclosure, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Site.

14. Questions about these terms?
